Balla Community Resource Development
About Us:
Balla Community Resources Development (CRD), a company limited by guarantee with charitable status, was established in 1996 to encourage community development and enable Community and Public Agencies, working together, to improve the quality of life and serve the community of Balla and surrounding areas.
Our main goal is to develop and enhance Balla and cater for the needs of all in the Community.
The first major project undertaken by Balla CRD was to develop the Community Resource Centre which was officially opened in 2000.
Membership is open to anybody living in the community and our activities are varied to include MSLETB & Teagasc training courses, Irish Dancing, Bingo, Yogalates, Social Dancing, Balla Pipeband Practice, Heart Health West Fitness Programme, Youth Theatre, Balla Bridge Club, Bible Study Group, Mother and Baby Wellness, Mayo Performance Academy, Knit Wits Crochet & Knitting Group, Balla Active Retired Group, Foróige Club, 25 Card Group, Unislim, RSS Workshop, Sewing Group, GYO Gardening Group, Mayo Organic , Entertainment Events and Community Functions.
Our facilities cater for all sections of the community and include the Main Hall & Stage complete with Audio Visual Facilities and Surround Sound which can accommodate up to 300 people; meeting rooms of all sizes with audio visual facilities which can cater for all types of meetings and activities; 2 classrooms and ancillary facilities as well as outside play area to cater for the Early Years Learning Centre, electronic notice boards for community information.
We also have a fully accredited community kitchen and food hub which acts as an incubation facility for local emerging artisan food producers and also allows us to offer local families the opportunity to have funeral lunches here rather than travel to neighbouring towns. It also enables us to offer Birthday Party Packages which will allow local families with young children to celebrate birthdays locally.
We are also in the process of refurbishing the old courthouse into a Community Library incorporating a Book Swap Facility, Internet Hot Desk and a ‘Community Administrative Centre’ where local groups and community members can have their various administrative requirements catered for. We are also in the process of developing remote working hubs which will enable members of the community to work locally and avoid long commutes.
We work closely with local and county wide agencies and organisations such as Community Council, Heritage Group, Tidy Towns, Festival Committee, Drama Group, GAA, Golf Club, Balla Traders and Businesses, Mini Mi`s Early Learning Centre, Foroige, Markets and Lights Committee, Town Parks, Local Schools as well as Mayo County Council, MSLETB and SEIA. We are always looking to add passionate, dedicated individuals to the community development Team.
